In 80 days around the world (English-language title: Around The World In 80 Days ) is a planned film adaptations based on the novel Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne based. The series is produced as a joint project of the European Alliance by the public broadcasters Rai , France Télévisions and ZDF .

In 2017, a cooperation between the public broadcasters ZDF, Rai and France Televisions for the production of series was created with the European Alliance . Among other things, a series adaptation of Jules Verne's work Reise um die Erde in 80 days was announced. In March 2019, ZDF announced that filming for Around the World in 80 Days should begin in autumn 2019. Slim Film + Television is responsible for series production. In addition to the partners of the European Alliance, Seven West Media also supports the production that publishes the series in Australia. Federation Entertainment holds the international distribution rights. As a result, for example, the BBC acquired the broadcasting rights in the UK .

The historical adventure series Around the World in 80 Days is followed by Phileas Fogg and his butler Passepartout, who is portrayed by Ahmed Sylla . Around the World in 80 Days is developed by Executive Producer Simon Crawford Collins , while Ashley Pharoah is responsible for production. She also acts as a screenwriter with Caleb Ranson . Nathalie Biancolli from France Televisions says the broadcaster will continue to focus on historical series. In addition to around the world in 80 days , France Televisions also adapted Germinal and Josephine and Bonaparte . In contrast to previous France Televisions productions, however, the series is designed to be more modern and cinematic. Steve Barron is the main director, with Charles Beeson also directing some episodes.

On June 15, 2019, it was announced that David Tennant would play the lead role Pileas Fogg. The start of filming was announced for January 2020 in June 2019 and announced for February 2020 in December 2019. Much of the filming takes place in South Africa and Romania . The productions in these countries are supported by tax incentives. The publication is planned for the end of 2020.
