In Search of ... is an American television series that was broadcast from 1977 to 1982 in 144 episodes in six seasons. It was moderated by Leonard Nimoy and dealt in the form of infotainment with mysterious events and topics such as the Loch Ness monster , Bigfoot or UFO sightings. Originally Rod Serling provided as a moderator, but died before production begins. The production background was the commercial success of Erich von Däniken's theses on pre-astronautics .

A new edition of the format has been broadcast on the cable channel History since July 20, 2018 . This time the show is moderated by Zachary Quinto . The German title is: Simply enigmatic - with Zachary Quinto . Quinto is spoken in the German version by his regular speaker Timmo Niesner .

In each episode a real mysterious or paranormal event is presented or controversial historical cases such as the Lincoln murder , the sinking of the Titanic , the ghost ship Mary Celeste , the serial killer Jack the Ripper or the Jim Jones cult .

The individual episodes consist of montages of interviews , documentary film recordings and re-enacted scenes from historical events. Nimoy wrote the script for an episode about Vincent van Gogh . The series resulted in six books written by Landsburg and containing forewords by Nimoy:
