In frosty valleys is the first German-language studio album by the Finnish heavy metal band Timo Rautiainen ja Trio Niskalaukaus . It was released in 2001 through Spinefarm Records .

Origin and background

After the two studio albums Lopunajan merkit and Itku pitkästä ilosta , singer Timo Rautiainen was looking for the opportunity to present his music outside of Finland . He wanted to do this in a special way and not sing in English like any other band . Since the band received numerous positive reactions from German promoters and journalists , the musicians decided to speak German.

Four songs from each of the two previous studio albums were used for the album. The texts were translated by Teemu Kautonen. He was supported by Maija Kinnunen and Jens Horstmann. The four songs of the album Itku pitkästä ilosta only the vocals were re-recorded, while the four songs from the album Lopunajan Merkit were recorded completely new. The album covers of In frostigen Tälern and Itku pitkästä ilosta are identical. Was produced in frosty valleys Tuomo Valtonen and Teemu Kautonen. Valtonen also did the mixing , while Mika Jussiila did the mastering .

reception

For Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from the German magazine Rock Hard , In frostigen Tälern is a “gripping, deep emotional album”, although he also noted that the German lyrics “mostly sound screamingly funny”. Because the melodies "mostly have hit potential", Mühlmann awarded 8.5 out of ten points. According to the reviewer Fierce of the online magazine Vampster , the band offers songs "which simply hit the point in their simplicity and enchant with beautiful melodies". Reviewer Alex from the online magazine Metal Observer described In frostigen Tälern as an album that “goes beyond the expressiveness of simple words” and called the work a cult .
