Independente Sport Clube do Tômbua , usually short Independente , is a football club from the Angolan city of Tômbua . The club also has sections in other sports, including handball .

The club welcomes its guests to the Campo do Independente do Tômbua , which was completely renovated in 2013 , also historically named after its sports complex Electro Clube . There is space for 3,000 spectators here.

history

The club was founded on December 8th 1928 as Independente Sport Clube Porto Alexandre , by the local fishermen's association. The club experienced its most successful period at the end of the Portuguese colonial era , when Angola showed its greatest economic development. From 1969 to 1971 Independente was Angolan champions three times in a row.

The city of Tômbua carried the Portuguese place name Porto Alexandre until 1975 . After Angola's independence from Portugal in 1975, the club changed the name of the club to its current name to match the changed place name.

In 1994 Independente made it into the finals of the Angolan cup competition, the Taça de Angola . He was subject to the capital club Petro Luanda , which, however, also won the Angolan championship in the same year . This is how Independente qualified for the African Cup Winners' Cup . There he was eliminated in the first round against Olympic Mvolyé from Cameroon .

The season in Girabola 1999 ended Independente 14th and rose to the second division, the Gira Angola . So far, the club has not been able to return to the top division of the country (as of December 2014).
