history

The company was founded in 1975 as the RF Reedereigemeinschaft Forschungsschiffahrt in Bremen by URAG as a joint subsidiary with VTG Vereinigte Tanklager und Transportmittel Gesellschaft , in order to continue the management of URAG's research vessel Valdivia , which has existed since 1970, on behalf of the Institute for Oceanography in Kiel. In the following ten years he was responsible for the management of the first sun - initially for the state of Schleswig-Holstein, later for the Hanseatic City of Hamburg and later as owner - as well as the research vessels Poseidon and Victor Hensen for the Institute for Oceanography in Bremerhaven. In addition, RF supervised the North Sea research platform for many years and was active in advising third parties as well as building supervision for the construction of several research vessels, such as the Sagar Kanya , built in 1982/83 at the Schlichting shipyard for India .

From 1986 RF also managed the newly built Meteor and since the 1990s the Heincke , Senckenberg , Alkor , Ludwig Prandtl and Professor Albrecht Penck joined the RF-managed fleet , sometimes for many years, sometimes only for a short time .

The company has been part of the Linnhoff Schiffahrt Group since the beginning of 2001 . The company was originally based in Bremen and was relocated to Bremerhaven after it was sold to the Linnhoff Schiffahrt Group .

In 2003 the shipping company lost a number of its managed ships to Briese Schiffahrt from Leer after a Europe-wide tender . In 2004 the company still operated seven of its own or managed ships and employed around 200 German seafarers, with plans to enter the bulk shipping segment.

On May 25, 2016, the company's headquarters were relocated from Bremerhaven to Buxtehude.
