history

The picture was taken in 1904 at a time when Franz Marc was several times in Markt Indersdorf in the Dachau district. The year before, Marc had taken a trip to France and got to know Impressionism there. After his return he had broken off his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was now looking for his own style with brighter and stronger colors.

description

The painting is 40 cm high and 31.5 cm wide. It was painted on canvas with oil paint .

The upper half of the picture shows the Gasthaus zur Mühle in the village of Glonn , a part of the market in Indersdorf, and neighboring buildings. The river Glonn flows in the foreground , over which a bridge leads on the right edge of the picture. Elongated beds stretch between the inn and the river. Colorful clothes hang on a fence between the flower beds and the street. The facade of the inn, the fence and the clothes are reflected in the moving water.

It is one of the few paintings in Marc that depicts a particular landscape location.
