Indigo Girls is the second music album of the same name folk rock - duo Indigo Girls . It was released in 1989 on Epic Records , making it the duo's first major label release; it was a breakthrough in her career. It was remastered in 2000 with two bonus tracks. All songs on the album were composed and written by either Amy Ray or Emily Saliers.

The album sold so well that over time it went platinum . It was the duo's most successful album and stayed in the US album charts for 35 weeks, the best ranking was number 22. The single Closer to Fine reached number 52 on the US singles chart on July 22, 1989, in which she was represented for 9 weeks. It was the most successful song of the Indigo Girls. The duo's nomination for the Grammy as Best New Artist 1990 is due to the success of the album. The album itself won one of the trophies for Best Contemporary Folk Recording in 1989 . On Allmusic , the album is praised primarily for the poetry in the songs, but the safe harmonies, the musical ability of the two interpreters and the quality of their voices are also positively mentioned.
