features

Indostomus paradoxus is only three centimeters long and has an elongated and heavily armored, but very agile body. The dorsal and anal fins are short, sit above the center of the body and face each other symmetrically. In front of the actual dorsal fin there are five tiny dorsal fin spines that are not connected to one another by fin membranes. The body is covered with bony plates covered with jagged ridges, as do the outer skull bones. The back is armored by these 21 shields. A sideline is missing. The caudal fin stalk is slender and long. Indostomus paradoxus may his head like a pipefish upward turn.

Sexually active males can have distinct dark brown to black stripes on their dorsal and anal fin .

Fin formula : Dorsal V / 6, anal 6, pectoral 22–24, ventral 4, caudal 10–15.

Aquaristics

The fish are quite suitable for keeping in aquariums - due to their small size also in smaller tanks. In the community pool, however, care should be taken to ensure that the more leisurely eaters get enough food. Breeding in the aquarium is also possible.

Way of life

Indostomus paradoxus lives close to the ground in stagnant water and swamps. It moves little, and when it does, only slowly; he spends most of his time resting on the bottom of the water. Indostomus paradoxus feeds on worms and other little agile, small, ground-dwelling invertebrates .
