The dam on the upper reaches of the Indravati was completed in 1978–2001. It comprises 4 dams and 8 dikes with which the Indravati and several of its tributaries are dammed.
The dam is used for irrigation and energy generation . The water is fed to the power station ( ⊙ ) near Mukhiguda via a pressure tunnel and a pressure pipe . It has 4 vertical Francis turbines of 150 MW each. The water is then drained through irrigation channels and the Hati , a tributary of the Tel . The storage destination (FRL) is at 642 m . The maximum water level (MWL) is 643 m , the lowest water level (DSL) is 625 m . The reservoir has a total storage space of 2300 million m³ and a usable storage volume of 1435.5 million m³. The reservoir has a water surface of 110 km² at the dam target.
