Inese Vaidere (born September 3, 1952 in Jelgava ) is a Latvian economist and politician (Vienotība).

Life

Vaidere studied business mathematics at the University of Latvia . There followed later an aspirantur in the form of postgraduate studies, which she finished with an academic degree as a candidate in science with a focus on international economics. From 1975 she worked at the University of Latvia as an assistant, lecturer, lecturer and professor. Her doctorate in economics followed in 1992, and later she became an associate professor for economics and economics.

From 1993 to 1995 Vaidere was the first deputy editor-in-chief of Labrīt magazine . She then worked in the Office for Excise Goods and Parliamentary State Secretary in the Latvian Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 1997 she was appointed advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, a year later Minister of the Environment and another year later advisor to Latvian President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga . From 2001 to 2002 she was a member of the Riga City Council and was also deputy mayor of the capital during this time. In 2002 she moved to Saeima . In the national parliament, she chaired the Committee on Foreign Affairs and was a member of the Committee on Public Expenditure and Auditing.

In 2004 Vaidere was elected to the European Parliament for the Tēvzemei ​​un Brīvībai / LNNK party, and in 2008 she moved to the new Pilsoniskā savienība party . She was re-elected for this in 2009. In 2012 there was a merger to form the new Vienotība party , where it belongs to the Presidium.

She is one of 89 people from the European Union against whom Russia imposed an entry ban in May 2015 .
