Theodor Körner Infantry Division

The Infantry Division "Theodor Körner" was a German infantry division of the Army in World War II . The unit consisted mainly of members of the Reich Labor Service (RAD).

Division history

The later RAD Division No. 3 "Theodor Körner" was formed as Infantry Division eg V. 3 in the course of the 35th wave of formation on April 4, 1945 from the staff of the 215th Infantry Division , men from the RAD of Wehrkreis III on the Döberitz military training area set up. It comprised about 10,000 men, with about 7,500 men from the RAD. The division was named after Theodor Körner a short time later .

She came to the Mulde and later in the XX. Army Corps in the 12th Army south of Berlin against Allied and Soviet troops. On April 26, the last attack operation in World War II took place near Beelitz with the formation:

The unit covered the flank in the Treuenbrietzen -Niemegk area . Overall, there was a short-term gain in space against the surprised Soviet troops.

The division was taken prisoner of war by the US in May 1945 near Tangermünde on the Elbe .
