Lists on the subject |
The infantry rifle model 1809 (also known as the New Prussian infantry rifle or Scharnhorst's infantry rifle ) is a musket and the last flintlock rifle in the Prussian army before rifles with percussion locks became popular . It was introduced in 1811 and used, among other things, in the Wars of Liberation .
development
The Military Reorganization Commission , headed by Major General Gerhard von Scharnhorst , demanded the development of a new infantry rifle from 1807. After thorough examinations and tests of various samples, the final model was determined by the cabinet order of May 29, 1809. The successful French infantry rifle model 1777 served as a model for the development of the New Prussian infantry rifle .
production
The infantry rifle M / 1809 was mainly manufactured in the Potsdam-Spandau Royal Prussian Rifle Factory , as well as in the rifle factories in Neisse ( Upper Silesia ), Danzig , Saarn and in Suhl weapons factories.
In the middle of the 19th century, most of the M / 1809 rifles were converted to a percussion lock .
