infoclio.ch is a specialist portal for the history of Switzerland . The portal offers services for historians and people interested in history, organizes events, works to improve the digital infrastructure and promotes digital humanities in Switzerland.

Goal setting

As a specialist portal for the historical sciences in Switzerland, infoclio.ch is committed to promoting, securing and further developing the digital infrastructure for historical science in Switzerland, promoting the use of digital resources by researchers and improving the visibility of historical research on the web. infoclio.ch is also committed to good cooperation between the various language regions.

organization

infoclio.ch is an institution of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW) . The infoclio.ch portal is operated by an editorial team based in Bern . The editors are advised by a commission made up of representatives from the Swiss National Library (NL) , the Federal Archives (BAR) , the Swiss Society for History (SGG) and other national institutions in the field of history. Between 2008 and 2012, infoclio.ch was an associated project of the Swiss Electronic Library .

history

infoclio.ch is based on an initiative of the Swiss Society for History (SGG) and the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW) . The editorial team started its work in summer 2008, and the infoclio.ch website went live in summer 2009. The first infoclio.ch conference took place on 11/12. September 2009 in Bern on the topic of “Digital media and infrastructures for the historical sciences”.

Services and products

The specialist portal infoclio.ch publishes daily news about historical research in Switzerland, maintains a calendar of events and records job offers for "historians". infoclio.ch operates several databases that support historians and people interested in history with their research:

  • The infoclio.ch database lists Swiss institutions and online resources that are important for the historical sciences.
  • The Master / Liz / Diss database records all current and completed theses in history that were written at a Swiss university.
  • The reviews database contains reviews of books on Swiss history and books that have been published in Switzerland. On the one hand, there are reviews that were commissioned by infoclio.ch in cooperation with H-Soz-u-Kult, as well as reviews that have appeared in various specialist journals.

Every year infoclio.ch organizes an event for the conference series “Digital Media and History” with contributions from experts from historical research and information science. In addition, infoclio.ch is also regularly involved in conferences of universities and educational and cultural institutions, creates multimedia recordings of scientific events, conducts interviews with international experts and publishes conference reports.

Other Projects

  • The online teaching tool compas - Structured Research on the Web , developed by infoclio.ch in 2012, is used by historians and history students as a reference work and online teaching tool in the field of information literacy.
  • On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Jean-Jacques Rousseau , infoclio.ch published Rousseauonline.ch, a digital edition of the complete works of Jean-Jacques Rousseau under the Creative Commons license .
