history

The company Infratil was on 27 January 1994 under the Companies Act 1955 as Infrastructure & Utilities NZ Limited in Wellington founded. The capital of the company was 1.40  NZ $ , divided equally between seven shareholders (six lawyers and one legal assistant) with 20 cents each. On January 31, 1994, a decision was made to increase the company's share capital to NZ $ 100 million in 20 cents each and to list it on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Lloyd Morrision , an investment banker from Wellington, was the initiator of the company's formation. Through his company HRL Morrison & Co Limited he leads as Geschäftsbesorger the administration and the business activities of Infratil , which itself does not have its own administration and no employees. On February 11, 1994, a management contract was concluded between Infratil Limited and Infratil Management Limited , which was later renamed Morrison & Co Infrastructure Management Limited on December 9, 1996 , followed by HRL Morrison & Co Limited . The company HRL Morrison & Co Limited acts as an intermediary for investments by the Infratil company without any financial risk . The financial risk then lies with Infratil and its sponsors.

In addition to New Zealand and Australia, Infratil was also active in Europe, but has withdrawn from its European holdings and, according to the 2016 annual report, is only active in New Zealand and Australia.

Lübeck Airport

One of the European holdings was the airport in Lübeck , which Infratil took over 90% of the city of Lübeck for a purchase price of NZ $ 37 million in 2005 and sold back to the city in 2009 for NZ $ 64 million when the planned number of passengers did not increase realized. The purchase was also subjected to an investigation by the European Commission , which suspected that the trade was an illegal subsidy.

Kent Airport

Also in 2005, took over Infratil to Kent International Airport for the time 17 million  British pounds . In 2013 Infratil sold this airport after the airport's economic difficulties, but for a symbolic price of one pound. Buyer, Ann Gloag , was a family member of the investor. For this sale and the sale of the airport Glasgow-Prestwick , the company wrote 11 million pounds from his time.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport

The Scottish airport in the city of Glasgow , which had been owned by Infratil since January 2001 and most recently made a loss of two million pounds a year, was also sold for a symbolic price of one pound. The buyer was the Scottish government in November 2013.

When activating its airports in Europe, Infratil focused on working with the airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air ; as the above three examples show, not always with success.
