Inge Hanewinkel

Inge Hanewinkel (* 12. April 1968 in Koblenz as Inge Kroppenberg) is a German legal scholar and Chair of Roman Law, Civil Law and Modern Private Law at the Georg-August University of Goettingen .

Life

Hanewinkel studied Ancient History, American Studies and Classical Philology at the University of Mainz from 1987 to 1988 . Then she also studied in Mainz on a scholarship from the Study Foundation of the German people by 1992 Law . After the First State Examination in 1993, she was a research assistant until 2000, then a research assistant in the Faculty of Law and Economics. In addition, from 1993 to 1995 she did the legal preparatory service at the OLG Koblenz . 2000 Hanewinkel at Mainz University with a thesis on Roman insolvency law to Dr. iur. PhD. In 2005 the habilitation followedwith a thesis on applicable inheritance law .

After substituting professorships in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main, she accepted an appointment at the University of Regensburg in 2006 . She turned down a second offer of appointment at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University . In 2012, she accepted an appointment at the University of Göttingen and heads the Department of Roman Law and Common Law at the Institute for Fundamentals of Law there. She has been the Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Göttingen since 2020 .

In his habilitation thesis, Hanewinkel deals with the freedom of disposal in the event of death as the second significant expression of private autonomy alongside the freedom of contract among the living.

Memberships

Hanewinkel is a member of the Civil Law Teachers Association , the Scientific Association for Family Law, the Hereditare Association - Scientific Society for Inheritance Law Bochum, the Civil Procedure Law Teachers Association, the Regensburg Legal Study Society and the Göttingen Legal Society.

Awards

For her dissertation, Hanewinkel received the research award from the Vereinigung der Freunde der Universität Mainz e. V. for the year 2000 and the Prize of the University of Nice as part of the Quinto Premio Romanistico Internazionale Gérard Boulvert , Naples 2001.

In 2002 she was awarded the “Prize for Excellent Teaching” by the Senate of the University of Mainz.

For the 2014/2015 college year, the Käte-Hamburger-Kolleg “Law as Culture” at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn awarded Inge Hanewinkel a fellowship and financed the replacement of the Göttingen chair for two semesters.
