Ingeborg Prior (born 1939 ) is a German author of biographies and documentary fate stories.

Life

Ingeborg Prior grew up in a small town in Baden-Württemberg . In 1960 she moved to Cologne . After an internship at a daily newspaper, she first worked as a freelance journalist for print media and radio.

During her research for an article about people in the circus, she met the clown Peter Bento, who was married to the circus rider Irene Storms Bento, who was persecuted as a Jew during the Nazi regime . From numerous conversations with those affected, Prior reconstructed the story of the Jewish Lorch-Bento circus family, who survived the Holocaust in the Althoff circus . This resulted in the TV documentary Refuge in the Circus for WDR in 1995, directed by Micha Terjung, and in 1997 the novel The Clown and the Circus Rider . In 2003 the producer and director Mark Schlichter acquired the film rights to the book.

This was followed by a biography of the art historian Sophie Lissitzky-Küppers . In his review for the FAZ , Hans-Peter Riese criticized that Prior had missed a chance to portray Lissitzky-Küppers “in the context of art history and the history of their time”. Prior is co-author of the 2008 autobiographical family history of the Israeli composer Ella Milch-Sheriff Ein Lied für Meine Vater .
