Ingelger

Ingelger , or in Latin Ingelgerius called (* around 840, † 886) was a viscount from Angers to 880. He is the progenitor of the first house of Anjou .

There are no contemporary sources about him. He is only mentioned in a document from Count Fulko des Roten from the year 929 as his father ( Ingelgerio genitore meo ... ). The Gesta Consulum Andegavorum , written by Jean de Marmoutier in the 12th century, names a certain Tertullus nobilem dux as the father and Petronillam as the mother of Ingelger; a chronicle from Saint-Martin de Tours written a little later describes him as a nephew of Hugo Abbas . According to the Historia Comitum Andegavorum , Ingelger was installed in the office of Vice Count in Orléans by King Ludwig II of West Franconia the Stammler and entrusted with the defense of Tours against the Normans . He also received part of the Anjou from the king.

The Gesta consulum Andegavorum According was Aelindis / Adelais wife of Ingelger that had been of Angers a niece of the bishops Adalhard of Tours and Raino. Their son was the first Count of Anjou, Fulko the Red († 941).
