history

The Tower House was built in 1636. His tours were probably not added until after the 17th century. The southeast wing dates from the middle of the 18th century. It was redesigned in 1882 by the Aberdeen- based architect James Matthews and the southwest tower was added. At that time Inglismaldie was part of the property of the Earls of Kintore .

description

Inglismaldie Castle is isolated around four kilometers west of Marykirk off the A90 and near the left bank of the North Esk , which marks the border between Aberdeenshire and the neighboring Council Area Angus , or historically between Kincardineshire and Forfarshire . The three-story Tower House has an L-shaped floor plan. The later wing on the southeast side has two floors. It closes with a hipped roof .

The pigeon house

A quarry stone wall encloses the gardens to the northwest of the Tower House. Rusticated gate pillars with cornices and concave-pyramidal caps and final balls delimit the entrance gate.

The pigeon house, located between Tower House and North Esk, was built in the 18th century. The red quarry stone masonry encloses an area of 9 m × 4.8 m. The pigeon house is divided into two rooms and closes with a pent roof . Inside there are 760 nesting boxes in each room. The roof has collapsed in the meantime. In 2007 the pigeon house was added to the register of endangered buildings in Scotland. Seven years later, his condition was classified as very poor with moderate risk.
