Ingo Metzmacher - A German Conductor is a documentary by Sigrun Matthiesen that was produced by Studio.TV.Film on behalf of ZDF and arte (editor: Christopher Janssen) and was broadcast on Arte on March 21, 2011 .
content
The documentation describes Ingo Metzmacher as an artist who regards music as an essential part of social communication, as a language with its own message, and who as a conductor thus pursues a discursive approach. Metzmacher is a sought-after expert on the music of the 20th century and sees music not only as an individual, emotional experience, but also as a reflection of collective relationships. Loosely based on Dmitri Shostakovich, it follows the idea of a universal bond between the listener and the artistic avant-garde. The documentary portrays Metzmacher, who was chief conductor and artistic director of the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin (DSO) from 2007 to 2010 , as a “German conductor” who engages with society and challenges his audience.
The film shows innovative concert events such as Arnold Schönberg Works in the Kunsthaus Tacheles and Kurt Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins in the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with Marianne Faithfull in April 2009 in Rome .
