Ingo Zimmermann

Ingo Zimmermann (born December 17, 1940 in Dresden ) is a German journalist , writer , librettist and former CDU politician .

Life

Zimmermann passed his Abitur at the Dresden Kreuzschule in 1959 . After studying Protestant theology and doing his doctorate with Friedrich Haufe as Dr. theol. (1965) in Leipzig he worked for Union-Verlag in Berlin until 1973 . From 1974 to 1976 he was a freelancer and cultural editor for the Dresden daily newspaper Die Union . In 1975 Zimmermann did his reservist service as a construction soldier and was a freelance writer from 1977 to 1989.

After the reunification, Ingo Zimmermann was a member of the first Saxon state parliament for the CDU between 1990 and 1994 . From 1994 to 2004 he was professor of art history at the Dresden University of Music and has been a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts since 1992 . From 1993 to 1994 and 1996 to 2001 Zimmermann was a member of the Saxon Cultural Senate , from 1995 to 2003 President of the Saxon Music Council and from 2002 to 2008 President of the Saxon Academy of the Arts .

Zimmermann was chairman of the Dresden Elbe Valley World Heritage Board of Trustees from the beginning (2005) until this body was dissolved in 2008. In connection with this function, he resigned from the CDU in 2007 (see Dresden Bridge Dispute ).

Ingo Zimmermann is the brother of the composer Udo Zimmermann .
