Ingoberga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ingoberga (* around 520; † 589 in Tours ) was the first wife of the Frankish king Charibert I. Her origin is unknown, but a noble family is assumed.

Ingoberga and Charibert were probably the parents of Bertha , later wife of King Æthelberht of Kent and initiator of the Christian mission among the Anglo-Saxons .

Ingoberga and Charibert's marriage broke up, she went to a monastery in Tours , where she became a confidante of the chronicler Gregory of Tours . Before her death at around 70, she donated her fortune to churches in Tours (especially Saint-Martin de Tours ) and the church in Le Mans . Likewise, she is said to have released unfree from her power of disposal.
