Ingrid Elovsdotter

Ingrid Elovsdotter (* around 1220 in Östergötland , † September 2, 1282 in Skänninge ) was a Swedish Dominican and is a Catholic blessed . She came from one of the few great noble families in Sweden at that time and is considered to be the pioneer or at least the forerunner of St. Birgitta .

As a widow Ingrid set up Sweden's first Dominican convent, which she herself joined after a pilgrimage to Rome and Jerusalem . Ingrid was a very popular figure in Sweden until the 16th century and was venerated as a saint, although she has not been canonized to this day . Her beatification took place on March 16, 1499, more than eighty years after the application to the Council of Constance . Her relics have been kept in Skänninge since June 30, 1507 .

Ingrid is represented as a Dominican nun with a cross. Her feast day is September 2nd.
