The Missing Children Initiative is an association founded in 2008 and based in Hamburg. The association emerged from an initiative of affected parents, which has existed since 1997 under the name Parents' Initiative Missing Children . The first initiative was initiated by the campaign We help looking for the television program Schreinemakers TV . The organization is headed by Lars Bruhns, the son of the founder Monika Bruhns, who died in 2005.

Every year around 50,000 children are reported missing in Germany. According to the initiative, “around 98 percent” of these are outliers “that reappear by themselves”.

Missing Children Initiative is part of a European umbrella organization called Missing Children Europe .

Hotline for missing children

The initiative has been running a hotline since the beginning of 2011 (telephone number 116 000). Affected parents are supported here in the search for their children, and reports of missing children are received and forwarded to the police. The hotline is a harmonized service of social value , which can be reached uniformly and free of charge across Europe.

Germany will find you

Find Germany is a social media campaign of the association that wants to offer support in the search for missing children with the help of social networks. Separate Facebook profiles are created for the individual cases. The more than 100,000 supporters can distribute the profiles further and provide information about those who are wanted. The campaign is supported by celebrities such as Mark van Bommel and Jan Sievers .
