music

Jan Sievers began writing his first songs at the age of 14. After graduating from school, I started training in advertising. While working as an intern in an advertising agency, he was discovered by a producer by chance. In 1999 he signed his first recording contract and recorded an album. The album was completed in 2001, but never released because the record company (netrecord-z) went bankrupt shortly before it was released.

In 2004 Sievers quit his permanent job in order to be able to concentrate more on music from now on. After writing a large number of songs, he founded a band (BLINDTEXT) in 2005, whose musical style can best be classified as a mixture of indie and pop-rock. The band's trademarks are intelligent, humorous lyrics and yellow and black outfits. Jan Sievers won numerous competitions with BLINDTEXT, played on the Coca Cola Soundwave Tour, the Frequency Festival and a variety of other festivals. In 2007, Wir sind Helden became aware of the band and took one of the band's songs on their single "The Competition". Originally planned for the band, Jan Sievers also wrote quieter titles, but they didn't fit the band's concept. Because he didn't want to start another band, he started a solo project with these songs - the start of Jan Sievers.

After initially free concerts in smaller bars and cafés, labels quickly noticed him. In 2009 he signed with the Warner Music Group .

The single Die Suche from March 2010 was Sievers' first release, which stayed in the German single charts for a total of five weeks and advanced to 44th place. In the video for the single, u. a. Musicians such as Udo Lindenberg , Jennifer Rostock , Ina Paule Klink and Gunter Gabriel also participated . In May 2010 Sievers' debut album Abgelebt was released , which stayed in the charts in Germany and Switzerland for several weeks and was able to place it at number 38.

In the production of the album Sievers was supported by well-known musicians. In addition to music producer Patrik Majer and Rosenstolz band members Jens Carstens (drums) and Zoran Grujovski (guitar), Rosenstolz singer AnNa R. also sang the duet Nothing to regret with him. The Swedish jazz musician and ECHO winner Martin Tingvall was also involved in the production of two songs.

On September 30, 2011 the song “ Was ist then Liebe? Was released as the third single from his album Abgeliziert in a version with the writer duo Anne Hertz , with whom he also went on tour. A book has also emerged from the collaboration. (see trivia)

The music video for "What is love then?" was awarded the Best Music Video 2012 by the Music Award. A jury of experts and almost 400,000 music fans voted for the unusual video, in which Jan Sievers acted as the idea generator, director and producer. The implementation of the clip was based on Skype and was shot with fans from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. According to Sievers, the video includes 4 months of work, 14 days of shooting, over 3000 shots and 59 actors. The unique idea: a video conference clip in which the participants acted as if they were in the same room.

For the 2013/14 tour, Sievers released the “She is like April EP”, which was available exclusively at concerts. In the video for the single of the same name, actress and author Jana Voosen played a very moody woman who tried all possible to get Jan's attention.

In 2015, Jan Sievers successfully started crowdfunding via the nordstarter / startnext platform and collected over 20,000 euros within a very short time. At this point the production of the new album was almost finished. The primary goal of crowdfunding was to raise money for string and orchestral recordings because Sievers insisted on having "a real orchestra and real musicians". Half of the sum was already reached after a week.

The album recordings are complete. The new album is expected for autumn this year.
