Life

Inocente Rodríguez was a member of the Parliament of Honduras.

In 1860 Rodríguez was Secretary General of Parliament.

José María Medina took office again on February 2, 1870, when he appointed Inocente Rodríguez and Crescencio Gómez Valladares as his deputies .

In the government cabinet of Francisco Dueñas Díaz in El Salvador, Florencio Xatruch Villagra was appointed Commander in Chief of the Army and Governor of the Department of San Miguel . In April 1871, José María Medina declared war on El Salvador. Francisco Dueñas was overthrown by Mariscal Santiago González Portillo . Mariscal Santiago Gonzáles and Xatruch agreed to overthrow Medina. Xatruch had an army of 300 soldiers from Honduras and 700 from El Salvador invaded Honduras. Xatruch proclaimed himself President of Honduras on March 26, 1871 in Nacaome. Medina entrusted his deputy Inocente Rodríguez with the governance and was personally involved in the defense of his presidency.

José María Medina had signed an expansion contract with the Honduras Interoceanic Railway Company for 50 million francs for a rail link in Honduras. José María Medina referred to Article 14 of the Treaty of July 4, 1864 and tried to portray the invasion of El Salvador as a threat to US investment and to place Ciudad de Comayagua under the personal protection of US Ambassador Henry Baxter. At that time, the US government saw US interests only affected after the completion of the Interoceanic Railway .

In order to conduct a punitive expedition personally against the rebellious areas near Nacaome, José María Medina also handed over the presidency to Inocente Rodríguez from July 2 to October 20, 1871. Xatruch's troops were defeated and Xatruch fled to Nicaragua.
