reception

The music critic Robert Christgau gave The Village Voice the second highest grade “A” in his review column and noted that the Angry Samoans built on the work of other bands with their lyrics and their playing speed, but took both to extremes. Mike DaRonco certified the band with “raw energy” and humor on Allmusic and awarded them four out of five stars.

Trivia

The title Get Off the Air reviled the radio DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, who was very influential in Los Angeles / Hollywood at the time . In addition, bassist Todd Homer made death threats against Bingenheimer on a radio broadcast. The band was less concerned with criticizing the New Wave DJ, who was employed by KROQ-FM at the time , rather he was supposed to be insulted on behalf of the rock music scene in Los Angeles, which the band hated. Thereupon, however, Bingenheimer asserted his influence, so that the Angry Samoans in Los Angeles could no longer give concerts. The national fame of the Angry Samoans grew out of the need to play nationwide.

Kevin Eric Saunders was the brother of Mike Saunders. He has been officially registered as a woman since August 26, 2011 and is now called Bonze Anne Rose Blayk.
