L-3 Insight Technology is a US company founded in 1988 , which develops and produces optoelectronic components - mainly for the military sector. The products include aiming aids (especially laser attachments ), target lighting devices , image intensifiers and thermal imaging devices .

history

Insight Technology was founded by Ken Solinsky. After Solinsky graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering , he accepted a civilian post with the United States Army in Fort Belvoir in 1971 . He worked at the Night Vision Lab and eventually became a program manager there .

Solinsky left the US Army in 1986 and worked briefly for Kollsman in Merrimack as a program manager for thermal sensors. In 1988 he founded Insight Technology with his wife. Initially the seat was in Bedford , ( New Hampshire ); later the company moved to Londonderry , (New Hampshire). Insight Technology has secured various armaments contracts over the years, especially for the AN / PEQ-2 and AN / PEQ-15 infrared laser sights .

In the early 1990s, Insight cooperated with Heckler & Koch on the development of the MK and USP pistols . Insight Technology supplied the Laser Aiming Module (LAM) and later the Universal Tactical Light (UTL). Shortly thereafter, Glock approached Insight. Glock equipped his pistols with a new rail mount . This partnership resulted in the target lighting M3 light . Confirmed by the success of the two collaborations, Insight began to market the target aids itself.

The company grew, expanded its premises in Londonderry several times, and in 2008 employed 1,100 people. In April 2010, L-3 Communications acquired the company and integrated it into the new Warrior Systems division . Ken Solinsky became managing director of this new division, which also brings together other companies such as EOTech .

In late 2013 began a downsizing ; In mid-2014, the number of employees fell to around 760. This was justified with the expiry of several government contracts and lower demand for various military equipment.
