The Institut du cerveau et de la moelle épinière (Institute for the Study of the Brain and Spinal Cord) is a basic research center for neurological and psychiatric diseases in Paris . The center is located on the premises of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital and employs over 700 researchers, doctors and technicians. President of the ICM is Gérard Saillant.

About the center

The ICM was founded on September 24, 2010 and is dedicated to the research and treatment of neurological and psychiatric diseases such as Alzheimer's disease , Parkinson's disease , dystonia , epilepsy , multiple sclerosis , stroke , cancer , dementia , depression , obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism as well as diseases of Spinal cord such as paraplegia , quadriplegia .

Founding members

The founding members of the ICM come from different fields such as medicine, sport, trade and film: the surgeon Gérard Saillant (President of the ICM), the neurologist Yves Agid (Scientific Director of the ICM), Olivier Lyon-Caen, Luc Besson , Louis Camilleri , Jean Glavany , Maurice Lévy , Jean-Pierre Martel, Max Mosley , Lindsay Owen-Jones , Michael Schumacher , Jean Todt , David de Rothschild or Serge Weinberg .

iPEPS incubator

The ICM is home to the iPEPS ( l'Incubateur et Pépinière d'Entreprises Paris-Salpêtrière ) incubator , which opened in 2012 and, by December 2019, housed more than 27 companies that work with the ICM (e.g. in the development of new drugs and medical technologies).
