Lindsay Owen-Jones

Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones (born March 17, 1946 in Wallasey ) is a former British racing car driver of Welsh descent and former CEO of the cosmetics company L'Oréal .

Life

Owen-Jones first studied literature at Worcester College in Oxford and began working as a sales representative for L'Oreal as early as 1969. In the 1980s he rose from the salesman to the boardroom of the global corporation, of which he became CEO in 1988 and remained until 2011. Under his leadership, the European cosmetics company, whose products were only available in Europe and the USA, became the global corporation that was mentioned and which today sells its goods to China.

Owen-Jones sat on the supervisory boards of BNP-Paribas and the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis. He also does this at Air Liquide. In 2002 he was voted “Europe's best manager” by the Spanish trade newspaper Futuro. In 2005, the then French Foreign Minister appointed him commander of the Legion of Honor to honor his services to France's economy. In the same year he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire .

In addition to his work as a manager, Owen-Jones was a motor sportsman. As a sports car driver, he took part in national and international races in the 1990s. Between 1994 and 1996 he competed three times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in 1996 with his teammates David Brabham and Pierre-Henri Raphanel in a McLaren F1, he finished fifth in the overall standings.
