Institute for the History of Medicine and Ethics in Medicine at the Charité

The Institute for the History of Medicine and Ethics in Medicine at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin (formerly the Institute for the History of Medicine at the Charité, Berlin is) one in 1930 for the purpose of research and teaching of the history of medicine founded University Institute at the Charité in Berlin . The medical historian Paul Diepgen was the founding director of the institute; it is currently headed by Volker Hess .

While the institute originally a general history of science had focus, it will focus now largely on modern medical history. Topics include medicine under National Socialism , patient history, the history of racial hygiene and the history of psychiatry . The institute currently has around 40 employees, offers university courses and organizes scientific conferences. The institute is closely linked, also in terms of personnel, to the Berlin Society for the History of Medicine .

The library has around 70,000 volumes.
