The Institute for Theological and Pastoral Training in Freising was a supra-diocesan training facility of the Freising Bishops' Conference . It was based in the Cardinal Döpfner House, the former residence of the Freising bishops on the Domberg in Freising .

The institute was founded in 1969 at the suggestion of Johannes Gründel following a decision by the Freising Bishops' Conference chaired by Cardinal Julius Döpfner . Initially founded as a cross- diocesan training for priests with the collaboration of Johannes Gründel and Hermann Stenger , the facility soon opened up to other full-time pastors ( deacons , pastoral officers , parish officers ). Approx. 20% of the course participants came from German-speaking countries (mainly Austria).
