The Institute of Culinary Art (ICA) is a private educational institution founded in 2006 that maintains an academy for training specialists in the catering and hotel industries. The company's headquarters are in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Since 2010 the academy has been a "state-recognized institution for further education".

Training courses

The Institute of Culinary Art offers part-time distance learning courses for the hospitality professions of cook , hotel specialist , restaurant specialist , specialist in system catering , hotel clerk and specialist in the hospitality industry with state qualifications. In Germany, it represents an alternative to the dual training system, which in these sectors consists of a three-year internship, with around 20 percent of the time being spent in vocational school . The training is made possible for those people who do not have the necessary prerequisites for the dual system (e.g. school leaving certificate or completed vocational training) and enables ICA process manager qualifications via a continuous further training path.

As an entry-level qualification, at least two years of professional experience in gastronomy must be proven.

The following certifications are offered for these target groups:

  • ICA process manager : training in nine modules for employees from industrial operations.
  • Assistant Foodservice Manager ( IHK ): Basic training for chefs / kitchen managers ( or junior staff) as well as (prospective) operations managers, sales staff, hotel and restaurant staff.
  • Foodservice Manager (IHK): Training as a manager in the catering industry. The target group includes operations managers, junior managers , key account managers and sales managers.

Modules

There are currently 9 modules offered exclusively in distance learning. The duration of the modules is 3 months. This period takes into account that the participants complete the course part-time and spend around 5 hours learning each week.

The modules conclude with a multiple-choice test (passed with 50%) and a group examination.

In addition, you are then entitled to begin training as a “Certified Business Administrator ( Bachelor Professional CCI)” (subject to the statutory amendment).

network

The Institute of Culinary Art maintains a network of representatives from the catering industry , who analyze the developments and trends in this area at regular meetings. The patron of this network is Franz Josef Radermacher , director of the Research Institute for Applied Knowledge Processing.

Award

In 2011, the Institute of Culinary Art was recognized as one of the “365 Places in the Country” by the Germany - Land of Ideas initiative in the Education category.
