The Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica , INEM for short , is the coordination center for the rescue service in continental Portugal . It is a department of the Ministry of Health ( Ministério da Saúde de Portugal ) and organizes the nationwide provision of emergency services . The INEM can be reached on the European emergency number 112.

history

In 1965 , the first nationwide emergency service was introduced and subordinated to the police ( Polícia de Segurança Pública , PSP). He was replaced in 1971 by the Serviço Nacional de Ambulâncias (German: National Ambulance Service), which could be reached nationwide on 115. This was still affiliated with the PSP.

After the Carnation Revolution in 1974 , the entire structure of the state underwent profound changes and the institutions were democratized at all levels. In 1981 the Serviço Nacional de Ambulâncias was replaced by the newly founded INEM, which was no longer affiliated with the PSP.

structure

The INEM is structured in four regional delegations (Delegação Regional), with Porto as the operational headquarters for the north region, Coimbra for the central region of Centro, Lisbon for the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, and Faro for the Algarve region .

Each delegation of INEM has ambulances , rescue vehicles , ambulances , intensive care vehicles , infant -Notfallwagen an emergency motorcycle fleet , and rescue helicopters . They have a uniform appearance, with blue letters on a yellow background.
