Integrae servandae

Integrae servandae is an Apostolic Exhortation in the form of a Motu Proprio from Pope Paul VI. and was released on December 7, 1965. With this letter a new regulation was made for the congregation of the Holy Office known up to then .

General and introduction

Paul VI outlined the origins and necessary further developments of this important congregation. He recalled the Apostolic Constitution Licet ab initio , with which Pope Paul III. on July 21, 1542 established the congregation. With the Apostolic Constitution Sapienti consilio of Pius X, the name Congregation of the Holy Office was introduced.

Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

With this papal letter, the Pope rearranged the competence and structure of the Congregation of the Holy Office and given it the name Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , which is still valid today . Index Librorum Prohibitorum

However, there is no longer any question of prohibition, but only of disapproval. With this inconspicuous word "disapprove" the end of the ecclesiastical book bans was implied.
