The Angerlloch is a karst cave in the municipality of Wallgau in Upper Bavaria in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in Bavaria , just under two kilometers as the crow flies southeast of the Walchensee .

It is located in the Estergebirge near Wallgau on the eastern slope of the Simetsberg at an altitude of about 890 meters. The cave can be accessed via two adjacent entrances at a distance of approx. 10 meters and has a drivable length of approx. 600 meters with a height difference of approx. 40 meters. When the snow melts and after heavy rainfall, the lower entrance is often under water.

The fishing hole is an active water cave. The cave stream flows through several siphons , a waterfall, beautiful sinter basins , pools and several lakes. The corridors are aligned with two intersecting cleft directions on two floors.

Because of its proximity to the valley, the Angerlloch has long been known and well researched. The cave is very popular with cave explorers as a training ground and is also used for cave rescue exercises and guided tours by youth groups. A visit is only recommended for experienced cave explorers and with suitable equipment (mountain boots, climbing harness, rope, overalls, helmet, headlamp, sufficient battery supply).

In the first part, the corridors essentially follow the cave creek to a large siphon, the public bath , which gets its name from the steep, slippery walls that have to be climbed when bypassing, which often fails spectacularly. Behind this bypass, cave explorers can enter themselves in the cave book at the crystal siphon.

In the deepest part of the cave, you have to lift off and wade through the 25-meter-long crystal siphon, climb a 5-meter-high clay wall and abseil into a 7-meter shaft above the iron lake .

The cave is under protection in winter because of the bats that hibernate there and may not be entered from October 1st to April 30th of each year by order of the nature conservation authority. Both entrances can be closed by steel grids.

The cave has been designated as a valuable geotope (geotope number: 180H001) by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .
