With a length of 7 km, Intercurrence Island is the largest of the Christiania Islands off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 13 km east-northeast of Liège Island at the northeast end of the Palmer Archipelago .
The exact naming background is not known. The island has been known since the records of James Hoseason , first mate on the Antarctic voyage of the British seal catcher Sprightly (1824-1825). Since then, the current designation as well as Christiania Island or Kristiania Island in connection with the archipelago to which it belongs can be found on maps .
