Intermountain Healthcare is a the west of the United States provider of services in the field of health care . The company is based in Salt Lake City and was founded in 1975 as an association of the then 15 hospitals that had previously been sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . It is not for profit and is recognized as a nonprofit under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code .

The Intermountain Healthcare network includes 22 hospitals with a total of around 2,500 beds and 185 medical centers and polyclinics in the states of Utah and Idaho . The company also operates an air rescue department with five helicopters and three aircraft under the name Life Flight and a health insurance program with around 600,000 members under the name SelectHealth .

Around 33,000 people were employed in 2013. The revenue and expenditure amounted to about 5.4 billion US dollars , including 250 million US dollars in charitable services for low-income patients or lack of health insurance.
