The International Association of Egyptologists (IAE - International Association of Egyptologists ) (French: Association Internationale des Égyptologues ) is the international professional association of Egyptologists. The association is a non-profit organization that brings together people who are willing to work for the advancement of Egyptology .

As part of the association, questions relating to Egyptological studies are discussed. The association promotes the study of Egyptology in all its aspects on an international level.

The IAE supports projects that are important for the scientific development of Egyptology and the international cooperation of Egyptologists. He also acts as an intermediary in the provision of funding and personnel for such projects.

The association promotes understanding of Egyptology among the general public by establishing contacts with support associations and other relevant institutions and maintaining relationships with them.

The IAE works to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the ancient inhabitants of the Nile Valley .

Congresses

According to the statutes, the association organizes an International Congress of Egyptology (ICE) every four years . The last of these congresses (ICE XII) took place in Cairo in November 2019 . The next congress is scheduled for August 6-12, 2023 and will be held in Leiden (Netherlands).

The result is the elimination of ICE as the International Conference of Orientalists ( International Congress of Orientalists ) in Paris in 1973. Since then he has been every three or four years in Cairo, in different cities in Europe and Toronto ( Canada held).

membership

The association has four types of membership:

  • Professional Membership : for members who have a university degree in Egyptology or another academic degree on the basis of which they make significant contributions to Egyptology
  • Associate Membership : for interested non-Egyptologists with a special interest in Egyptology or with involvement in a support association. Exceptions are people who are active in the antique trade.
  • Student Membership : for students at a recognized training institution
  • Honorary Membership : for people who have made a significant contribution to the development of Egyptology. Honorary Members are appointed by the General Assembly.
