International Association of University Presidents
The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) is an international association of university and college leaders. Members are exclusively presidents, rectors and chancellors of regionally accredited universities .
history
The association was founded in 1964 by university leaders from the USA, South Korea, Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Liberia. The inauguration conference was held in Oxford , England, in 1964 , with 120 participants from 21 countries. The organization has now grown to over 600 members from over 100 countries.
tasks
The organization sees its main tasks in providing university directors with a forum for exchanging experiences, collaboration and networking . It also wants to contribute to a global vision for higher education, strengthen the position of educational institutions and promote peace and international understanding through education.
The IAUP is a non-governmental organization (NGO) and has the highest advisory rights in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and advisory rights at UNESCO . Its headquarters are at the UN headquarters in New York City . The IAUP had a budget of £ 113,569 in 2013 .
