International Bodensee Airshow
The International Bodensee Airshow ( IBAS ) is an air show that has so far been held twice at the St. Gallen-Altenrhein airport on Lake Constance on the Swiss side .
1988
The “International Flight Days Altenrhein” attracted more than 90,000 visitors on August 13 and 14, 1988. Patrouille Suisse took part in the two-day event . In addition, many aircraft from the two world wars were presented (including a Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress").
1998
From August 6th to 9th, 1998, the IBAS98 Organizing Committee under President Fridolin Stutz organized a large public air show for the 70th birthday of Dornier Do X. Because in December 1927, construction work on the “Do X” began in the hangar that still exists on the airfield. The IBAS98 was the largest to date air show ever in Germany , Austria and Switzerland were aligned. A total of around 150,000 visitors were counted on Saturday and Sunday.

Interesting on the sidelines of IBAS98
- For the IBAS98 the organizers erected for the SBB its own stop on the route Rorschach-St. Margarethen right next to the airfield between Staad and Rheineck and also used special trains on Saturday and Sunday.
- The two aerobatic teams Red Arrows and Frecce Tricolori were stationed from Friday to Sunday at Friedrichshafen Airport (approx. 21 km as the crow flies over Lake Constance) in Germany.
- To “say goodbye” to the Red Arrows and the Frecce Tricolori on Monday from Friedrichshafen, an estimated 2,000 flight enthusiasts came to and around the airfield.
- At the Red Arrows and the Frecce Tricolori, impressive, unique "on-board shots" were made with a camera by a special pilot on Saturday.
- The Frecce Tricolori had to complete their two demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday with only nine machines instead of the usual ten because a pilot was suffering from otitis media and was not allowed to fly.
- The same weekend the Seenachtfest took place in Konstanz on the German side of Lake Constance . According to newspaper reports, the organizers wanted the Frecce Tricolori to fly over with colored smoke. Even if it was not about any aerobatic performance, it was forbidden, and a helicopter even patrolled to prevent a possible arrival without a permit, whereby in 1972, 1976 and 1978 aerobatics at the Lake Night Festival were a separate part of the program: In these three years ago, the Red Arrows performed over Lake Constance and showed the visitors their show.

IBAS08 was canceled on April 16, 2008 due to "delays on the political level".
