Niederwiesenweiher
The Niederwiesenweiher is a lake located in the local recreation area of the same name in the district of Böhl-Iggelheim , Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis .
Geographical location and features
The local recreation area "Niederwiesenweiher" is located between Böhl-Iggelheim and Schifferstadt in the south of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis . It covers an area of approx. 12 hectares , of which approx. 10 hectares are limited to the lake, as the pond is limited by surrounding fields.
The lake is an average of 6 meters deep, with a maximum depth of around 10 meters. The former quarry pond is fed by groundwater and spring water. Its course flows into the Steinbach. Gravel was mined there until 1973 . The lake is now in a natural area with reeds and floodplain forest , which is under landscape protection. On the east side there is a flat bathing zone with a sandy beach and you can swim at your own risk. There are also several peninsulas. There is also a bistro with toilets on the beach.
Flora and fauna
The lake is surrounded by typical shrub plants. Thanks to the irrigation situation, mainly wheat and radish are grown in the surrounding fields. In the south, the recreation area borders on the Böhler Forest, which mainly consists of beech and oak cultures.
Sticklebacks, goldfish and two catfish have often been spotted in the lake. Common rodents, rarely deer and harmless reptiles, can be found in the vicinity.
Events
There are occasional local music events of various styles such as techno , house , rock , reggae and jazz . These festivals, at which the bistro is quickly converted into a discotheque , attract a moderate number of visitors, especially from the surrounding area, but also make the Niederwiesenweiher supraregional z. B. known from BigCityBeats . In addition, the recreation area is part of the local hunger march program.
