The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT, German about the International Council on Clean Transportation ) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to operate unaffected by lobbyists research and technical and scientific analysis of environmental authorities to create.

The aim is to improve the environmental sustainability and energy efficiency of road , sea and air transport in order to improve public health and mitigate global warming . The ICCT is headquartered in Washington . It has further branches in San Francisco and Berlin (represented there as the International Council on Clean Transportation Europe non-profit GmbH ).

In 2015, Daniel Greenbaum is the chairman of the ICCT board of directors and Drew Kodjak is the executive board member. Head of Europe and Managing Director in Germany is Peter Mock.

history

The organization was founded in Delaware in May 2005 . It originated in an international meeting of regulators and experts in Bellagio in 2001 .

It gained greater awareness in September 2015 when the VW emissions scandal was uncovered . The ICCT, together with West Virginia University , had measured emissions of a VW Passat Diesel and a VW Jetta Diesel on the road, instead of in the laboratory as usual, with nitrogen oxide emissions well above the permissible maximum values. His advice to US environmental authorities in this regard ultimately led to the uncovering of the scandal.

The organization names the ClimateWorks Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation , the Energy Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation as major financiers .
