The International Association of Nutritional Sciences ( IUNS ) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1948 with the aim of researching global nutrition issues.

history

At a meeting of 22 nutritionists from 13 nations in London in July 1946 , the idea of an international association was discussed for the first time, under the umbrella of which the relevant national organizations could come together. The proposal fell on fertile ground and so an international conference was invited in 1948 at which the IUNS was founded and given legal status. Meanwhile, as of 2020, membership has grown to 82 national organizations.

Mission and goals

The IUNS has set itself the task of supporting and strengthening nutritional science, research and development through international cooperation on a global level. It thus serves as an intersection, which is intended to enable communication and cooperation between nutritionists of the national organizations and the dissemination of information in food research using modern means of communication technology.

In addition, the IUNS itself deals with current global nutrition issues such as the global increase in obesity in industrialized countries , the influence of nutrition on the development of children, food and nutrition problems in developing countries and offers food safety training for food scientists.

In addition, the IUNS is fighting for a world without malnutrition. It's a basic human right. The persistence of malnutrition, especially among children and mothers, in a world of abundance in developed countries is immoral. Improving nutrition around the world is not a charity event, but a social and individual right.
