German-speaking member organizations

Naturfreundejugend Germany

NaturFreunde Deutschlands (NFD) e. V. call themselves today in the subtitle “Association for Sustainability” and, as a non-governmental organization, are committed to an environmental and climate protection policy that links social and ecological issues. They were one of the founding organizations of the Easter march movement. The chairman is Michael Müller. The Naturfreundejugend Deutschlands is the association's youth organization. The national associations are quite different in their work. The Naturfreundejugend Berlin, for example, works on the topics of anti-racism, gender relations and anti-militarism. At the federal level, the topics of political participation of children and young people, (intercultural) sustainable travel for children and young people are topical. The membership book of the Friends of Nature in Germany is bilingual: German and Esperanto .

Naturefriends Youth Austria

The Friends of Nature Austria, also known as the “Tourist Association Die Naturfreunde” (TVN), was founded in Vienna in 1895 as a workers' organization to take care of hiking and tourism. The Friends of Nature International was founded in Austria in 1905, and the Austrian Leopold Happisch became its 1st Secretary. In 1934 the Friends of Nature were banned in Austria and re-established after the end of the war in 1945. The Friends of Nature Austria see themselves today as both a leisure and environmental organization. There are nine regional and 460 local groups. In contrast to the German Naturefriends Youth, the Naturfreundejugend Austria is largely apolitical. The offer is aimed more at the group of 5 to 15 year olds. We are currently working on making the offer interesting for “young adults”. The international area is particularly important here. The head office is in Wels in Upper Austria. Basically, the focus of activity is on the three areas of Team Alpin (including all mountain and climbing sports), winter sports and nature + environment. The training in climbing, winter and mountain sports, some of which are unique in Austria, are of particular importance.

Friends of nature Switzerland

In 1905, the first nature lovers local groups in Switzerland were founded by workers and craftsmen in Zurich , Lucerne , Bern and Davos . Today, the Friends of Nature Switzerland are made up of around 170 local groups (sections) with more than 10,000 members.
