International working dog test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Working Dog Sport (also eventing VPG, formerly protection dog sports SchH) is a dog sport and consists of three departments track ( tracking dog ), obedience and protection work ( Schutzhund ). For working dogs tests since Jan. 1, 2019, applies International working dogs Examination Regulations (IGP) of the canine federation Fédérdation Cynologique International (FCI). In dog sport circles, dog sport is therefore usually referred to as IGP (formerly IPO or VPG).

Departments

The international working dog sport consists equally of three departments for each of which 100 points can be awarded.

Section A: Tracking

In the track, the dog's sense of smell is checked by precisely following the trail of a person and showing objects made of different materials (wood, leather), for example, by sitting down or standing, that were previously put down. The calm, concentrated and steady search work of the dog is particularly important. Since the dog handler has to keep a distance of 10 meters, the dog's independence is also required. The length of a track within an IGP test is 400-800 paces. Tracks are usually placed on meadows or a field.

Department B: Subordination

In subordination, the focus is on the quick, exact and joyful execution of commands and the expression of the dog. Several exercises such as free-heeling in the foot, technical exercises such as sitting, down and standing, as well as retrieval exercises are shown. Retrieval exercises are shown on level ground, over a 1m hurdle and over a 1.8m sloping wall. At the end of the subordination, the dog has to be sent in the direction indicated by the handler and stopped again with the command place. Dogs and dog handlers should above all form a motivated and harmonious unit. There are always two dogs in a test. While one dog-dog handler team is doing its demonstration, the other dog is in the storage area and has to stay in the place position at a defined point.

Department C: Protection Service

In the protection service, a false perpetrator, the so-called helper, can be found from the dog. The handler instructs the dog to go around a certain hiding place and to find the pseudo-perpetrator. If the false perpetrator is found, the dog must indicate this to the handler by standing and barking. In the following situations, attempts to escape and attacks by the helper on the dog and handlers are thwarted. The dog's self-confidence, strong nerves, assertiveness and obedience are particularly in demand. The protection service is also called the high art of the IGP.

Eligibility for the International Beauty Championships (CACIT)

The international working dog tests can be taken in the three test levels IGP 1-3. The level of difficulty increases with each level. The IGP 3 with a value of at least "very good" is, in addition to the entitlement to the International Beauty Championships (CACIT), a prerequisite for attaining the title of "International Work Champion" (CIT).

The workout

Working dog sport is a possibility to utilize primarily the representatives of the so-called working dog breeds according to their abilities. The working dog breeds include: German Shepherd Dog , Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois), Rottweiler , German Boxer , Giant Schnauzer , Doberman , Hovawart , Bouvier des Flandres , Airedale Terrier . Nowadays, emphasis is placed on species-appropriate and above all non-violent training, which is largely based on the dog's natural instinct for food and prey-catching behavior. It is essential in the assessment that the dogs show self-confidence, good expression and high motivation. The judges' assessment also includes the fact that the dog and handler are a harmonious team.
