International Hilde Zadek singing competition

The International Hilde Zadek Singing Competition is an international singing competition for young singers that takes place every two years in Vienna , with a special focus on contemporary music. The competition was launched in 1999 and is named after Hilde Zadek . It is awarded by the Hildegard Zadek Foundation, founded in 1997 by Maria Venuti for the promotion of highly talented singers, since 2002 in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

The price

Singers of all voices up to the age of 32 are eligible to participate. Twelve pieces from at least three of the four epochs baroque, classical, romantic and modern must be submitted in German, Italian and a third freely selectable language. Four pieces must come from the modern age (from 1970), four songs and four arias must be chosen from operas or oratorios, one of which is a Mozart aria and a song or aria from the 2nd Viennese School (Schönberg, Berg or Webern).

The competition is carried out in three rounds, the finalists' concert took place in 2015 in the Glass Hall of the Vienna Music Association .

In addition to Hilde Zadek, the jury members included Christa Ludwig , Brigitte Fassbaender , Charles Spencer , Christian Meyer , Adrianne Pieczonka and Walter Kobéra .

The first prize in 2015 was endowed with 10,000 euros, the second prize with 7,000 euros and the third prize with 3,000 euros. In addition to other monetary special prizes, concerts were also given, for example at the Vienna Chamber Opera , the New Opera Vienna , at the Arnold Schönberg Center or at the Karlsruhe State Theater, as well as master classes, for example with Hilde Zadek or Christa Ludwig.

In 2013, 62 candidates from 19 different countries registered for the competition. In 2015 there were 69 participants from 24 different countries, seven of which were admitted to the final with three pieces each.
