Maria Venuti

Maria Venuti (* 1953 in Rochester ) is an American opera, recital and concert singer soprano . She is living in Germany.

Life

Venuti studied singing at New York's renowned Eastman School of Music. A scholarship enabled her to continue her studies a. a. to continue with Helmut Kretschmar at the Detmold University of Music . A master class with Christa Ludwig was the springboard for a student contract at the Vienna State Opera . There she sang under Herbert von Karajan and Karl Böhm . The close collaboration with Hilde Zadek determined the young singer's further career.

Maria Venuti sang on the major national and international opera stages in the world, for example in Vienna, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Dresden, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro as well as in Japan and the USA. Her big roles included Zerbinetta, Sophie, Zdenka, Konstanze, Pamina, Gilda etc.

In addition to her operatic activities, the artist has given song and concert evenings all over the world. In this regard, she has worked with important conductors, including a. with Wolfgang Sawallisch , Aldo Ceccato , Peter Schneider , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Václav Neumann , Sergiu Celibidache , John Eliot Gardiner or Sir Georg Solti .

Venuti has been professor of singing at the Karlsruhe University of Music since 1994 . In addition, she regularly gives master classes in Stuttgart, Copenhagen, Tallinn and Rio de Janeiro.

In 1997 she founded the Hilde Zadek Foundation to promote highly talented singers. She is the director of the foundation. Since 1999 the foundation has organized the international Hilde Zadek singing competition , since 2002 in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .
