Luciana Serra

Luciana Serra (born November 4, 1946 in Genoa ) is an Italian opera singer ( lyric and coloratura soprano ).

Life

Serra made her international debut in 1966 at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest . But she only achieved resounding success in the 1970s, when she took on the coloratura roles in Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor and Vincenzo Bellini's La sonnambula .

Even after twenty years, her performances of Gioacchino Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia (1987) and Donizetti's Don Pasquale (1988) at the Theatro di Regio in Turin are still praised as benchmarks for their clear presentation.

She is valued by experts around the world for her artistic personality and flexible repertoire. It includes both serious roles like Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto and comic ones like Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia . She often interprets the classic roles of Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini.

Her fame peaked when she sang Queen of the Night from Mozart's Magic Flute at the Royal Opera House in London in the 1980s . She also took on this role in the production of the Vienna State Opera under the direction of Otto Schenk under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt and at the Salzburg Festival in the Mozart Year 1991 under the direction of Sir Georg Solti in a production by Johannes Schaaf .

As a singing teacher, she teaches at the Villa Medici in Rome and the Accademia La Scala at La Scala in Milan . She performs with her most talented students to advance their careers.
