International Cat Day

The International Day of the cat , short days of the cat , also International Katzentag or World Cat called, is a day of action and is celebrated every year on August 8, the cat (and felines ) to put that day in the focus of attention.

Alignment

On International Cat Day, cat lovers celebrate living together with the house cat, which is popular as pets .

However, this day should also serve to remind people of the responsibility associated with keeping cats and to point out irregularities in keeping cats. For example, awareness of topics such as animal welfare and torture breeding is to be raised.

International Cat Day is also used - mostly by animal or environmental protection organizations  - as an opportunity to draw attention to the problem of endangered wild and big cats .

Emergence

International Cat Day has existed since 2002. There is still some confusion about the initiator, even if the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is sometimes mentioned.
