International ceramic symposium
The International Ceramic Symposium in Römhild , Thuringia is a symposium for the purpose of international exchange between artists in the field of ceramic art . The aim is to promote talented ceramists from all over the world and to further develop ceramic art. Its event ties in with the special tradition of ceramics in Römhild, where until 1990, under the direction of Siegfried Gramann, the largest pottery farm in Europe for free hand pottery (Töpferhof Gramann / VEB Töpferhof Römhild) was located.
The symposium took place a total of seven times in the years 1975 to 1993 in the Töpferhof Gramann and then after a 15-year break in 2008 for the eighth time after an association was founded in April 2007 to revive the symposium. In contrast to the annual International Pottery Symposium, since 2009 renamed the International Ceramic Research Symposium, which has been held in East Tyrol since 1968 and has been held in various German cities since 1975, Römhild does not focus on scientific and technical-historical research into ceramic art, but their contemporary artistic application in the foreground. In the past, 20 to 25 ceramic artists met for a stay of several weeks. A jury consisting of well-honed ceramic artists selects in advance from all the applications received. The artists will receive grants for the duration of the symposium. The works of art created during this time remain in Römhild in the Museum Schloss Glücksburg and form the exhibition "Ceramic International" there. In the course of the 40th anniversary, the Xth Symposium will take place in summer 2015, postponed by 1 year.
